Margilan resident sentenced to restricted freedom for fighting in Ukraine on Russia’s side
A 33 year old resident of Margilan has been sentenced to three years of restricted freedom after being found guilty of mercenarism for participating in hostilities in Ukraine on the side of the Russian Armed Forces.
The man spent about four days in the combat zone, where he sustained gunshot and shrapnel wounds before returning to Uzbekistan.
According to the verdict issued by the Margilan City Criminal Court, the defendant, identified as A.M., signed a one year contract with the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in August 2025 while serving a sentence in a correctional colony in Novosibirsk.
After undergoing military training in the Rostov region, he took part in combat operations against Ukraine from September 18-21.
During the fighting, he suffered gunshot and shrapnel injuries to his face and limbs. On October 23, 2025, he returned to Uzbekistan.
During the trial, A.M. fully admitted his guilt. He stated that he had initially refused to sign the contract but later agreed due to pressure from the prison administration.
The court found him guilty under Part 1 of Article 154 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan, mercenarism, and sentenced him to three years of restricted freedom.
In determining the punishment, the court took into account his admission of guilt, remorse, voluntary return to Uzbekistan, and the serious injuries he sustained during the hostilities.
