Uzbekistan continues evacuation of citizens from Middle East as regional airspace restrictions persist
Uzbekistan has evacuated 9,361 of its citizens from several Middle Eastern countries since March 1, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Most of the evacuees were brought home from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates through charter flights, while smaller groups returned from Iran, Bahrain, and Oman.
As of 10:00 on March 5, Uzbekistan had evacuated 9,361 citizens from the Middle East, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
Of the total, 8,114 citizens were returned from Saudi Arabia, while 1,192 people were evacuated from the United Arab Emirates via charter flights.
In addition, 23 Uzbek citizens were brought back from Iran, 25 from Bahrain, and 7 from Oman.
The Foreign Ministry noted that evacuation efforts are currently being carried out primarily from countries where airspace remains open for civilian aviation.
According to the ministry, once airspace in other countries across the region reopens, evacuation operations will be organized promptly and will continue.
The ministry also called on citizens to remain calm, avoid panic, and act prudently.
Uzbek nationals currently staying abroad were urged to strictly follow the internal regulations and requirements of the host countries and rely only on official information disseminated by the state authorities and diplomatic missions of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
