Authorities dismantle 45 criminal groups in Uzbekistan during first two months of 2026

Law enforcement authorities in Uzbekistan dismantled dozens of criminal groups and uncovered hundreds of offenses during large-scale operational measures conducted in January and February 2026, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The ministry reported that 6,025 special operational measures were carried out across the country during the first two months of the year in order to stabilize the criminogenic situation.

As a result of these operations, the activities of 45 criminal groups were stopped.

Authorities uncovered numerous crimes linked to extortion, illegal weapons possession, illegal gambling operations, human trafficking, the deliberate spread of HIV infection, and the maintenance of brothels.

According to official data, the operations revealed:

  • 116 cases of extortion
  • 315 crimes related to illegal weapons possession
  • 86 cases involving the organization of illegal gambling activities
  • 40 cases of human trafficking
  • 790 crimes related to the spread of HIV infection and the operation of brothels

Law enforcement officers also detained 533 individuals who had previously been on the wanted list, ensuring that legal accountability was enforced.

During January and February, a total of 3,150 criminal cases were initiated. In addition, 2,934 individuals were held administratively liable, while 980 suspects were placed in pre-trial detention.

Authorities launched 315 criminal cases related to illegal weapons possession during the operation.

As a result, 4,570 cold weapons were confiscated. These included 50 batons, 72 brass knuckles, 4,004 sharp-edged weapons, and 444 other types of weapons.

Investigators also seized 5,814 rounds of ammunition and 3 kilograms and 715 grams of explosive materials as evidence.

The ministry also reported that 47 social media accounts were blocked during the operation.

According to officials, these accounts had promoted criminal subculture, destructive ideas, and content that could negatively influence young people and the wider public.
