Kyrgyz President eyes 2030 launch for China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway
The China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway is expected to be launched around 2030, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov said, adding that the project would turn the country into a key transit link between Europe and China.

Speaking at Navruz celebrations in the Naryn region, Japarov said Kyrgyzstan, currently a “dead-end” for overland transport, would gain strategic importance once the railway is completed. A video of his remarks was released by the presidential press service on March 22.
“If today we are a country at a transport dead end, then with the completion of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway, we will become a key transit hub between Europe and China,” Japarov said.
The project will open new transit links and significantly increase the region’s international importance, he added. Delivery times are expected to be reduced, creating broader opportunities to access new markets.
Japarov also stressed the need to develop infrastructure and build trade and logistics centers along the railway route.
“The construction of the domestic railway linking the north and south of the country has already reached Kochkor. In the future, we plan to extend it to Kara-Keche and then to Makmal, fully connecting the regions by rail,” he said.
The expansion of the railway network is expected to strengthen internal connectivity and support growth in industry, agriculture, and tourism.
