Uzbekistan launches new digital system for vehicle registration plates
Uzbekistan has officially launched a new system for issuing state vehicle registration plates, moving the entire process to a digital platform. The new mechanism allows car owners to select and purchase combinations in real time through the dedicated AvtoRaqam mobile application.
The transition marks a significant shift in how the state interacts with vehicle owners. Under the new regulations, the process has been fully digitized to minimize human intervention and ensure transparency for all applicants.
The updated system categorizes registration plates into two main types:
- Special combinations: Users can now independently browse, select, and purchase "desirable" or "premium" number combinations directly through the AvtoRaqam app.
- Standard plates: Ordinary registration numbers are now issued automatically based on a random generation (Random) principle, ensuring a fair distribution process.
The electronic service is accessible to a wide range of applicants. Both physical and legal entities, as well as stateless persons residing in Uzbekistan, are eligible to use the platform to secure registration marks for their vehicles.
This digital overhaul follows a major policy shift earlier this year. As of January 1, 2026, Uzbekistan abolished the sale of license plates through the commodity exchange. This included the cancellation of the long-standing auction system previously used for "premium" number combinations.
The new system aims to streamline the administrative burden on citizens while providing a more modern, user–friendly interface for vehicle registration.
