Over 885 cases of illegal energy use detected across Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan has identified numerous instances of illegal use of fuel and energy resources during the first three months of 2026. According to the Inspectorate for Control over the Use of Electric Energy, Petroleum Products, and Gas under the Cabinet of Ministers, the scale of the theft has resulted in significant financial losses for the state.

During the first quarter, monitoring and raid activities revealed 885 cases related to the illegal consumption of energy resources. These violations involved the unauthorized use of 34.6 million cubic meters of natural gas and 49.7 million kWh of electricity. In total, the damage caused to the state budget is estimated at UZS 196 billion.

In response to these findings, the inspectorate has formalized 1,599 administrative protocols against consumers who violated the established rules for using energy resources. These measures are part of an ongoing effort to enforce transparency and accountability within the national energy grid.

Beyond electricity and gas, authorities placed a strong emphasis on the quality control of petroleum products. Inspections conducted at various gas stations and industrial enterprises uncovered 180 instances where fuel did not meet quality standards. These cases involved a total of 4,058 tons of petroleum products. The inspectorate noted that the timely intervention prevented the sale of this substandard fuel to the public.

The inspectorate emphasized that activities to detect violations and ensure the rational use of energy resources will continue across the country. Further measures are expected to be implemented to strengthen oversight and protect the interests of the state and consumers alike.
