Tashkent factories suspended for breaching emissions rules
The operations of several enterprises in Tashkent have been temporarily suspended for failing to comply with environmental regulations.
According to a statement published on the governmental portal, the State Environmental Control Inspectorate (Eco-Police) conducted inspections of metal-processing facilities in Tashkent’s Bektemir district. The inspections found that the enterprises had breached the requirements set out in their environmental impact assessments and exceeded permitted emission limits.
In one case, a furnace not included in the environmental documentation had been installed and operated illegally, contributing to air pollution. At another facility, no filtration or treatment systems were in place to capture hazardous substances released during metal smelting.
As a result, the operations of both enterprises have been suspended for 10 days. Authorities also recommended relocating the facilities outside Tashkent to prevent further deterioration of air quality.
Monitoring and enforcement measures are ongoing.
The development comes as Uzbekistan tightens environmental oversight. A new law, approved by parliament and signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, introduces stricter administrative and criminal liability for violations related to environmental protection, waste management, and the use of natural resources. The law is set to enter into force on June 28, 2026.
