According to the press service of Uzbekistan Airports, the Armenian carrier Shirak Avia plans to launch regular direct flights between Tashkent and Yerevan starting in May of this year.

The airline intends to operate the service once a week using Boeing 737 aircraft. This new route marks a significant milestone in regional connectivity, as passengers currently traveling between the two cities are forced to rely on transit flights through major hubs such as Moscow, Tbilisi, or Istanbul. The introduction of a direct link is expected to significantly reduce travel time and costs for passengers.

The establishment of this air corridor is seen as a vital step toward strengthening tourism and business relations between Uzbekistan and Armenia. Discussions regarding the opening of direct flights date back several years. In November 2017, the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Abdulla Aripov, met with his then–Armenian counterpart to discuss the prospects of air connectivity and broader economic cooperation, including potential partnerships within free economic zones.

Industry experts believe the launch of the Tashkent–Yerevan route will cater to a growing demand for travel in the Caucasus region and foster closer bilateral ties. While the initial schedule involves a single weekly flight, the frequency may be adjusted in the future based on market demand and the development of commercial interests between the two nations.
