Etihad Airways to launch Abu Dhabi – Tashkent flights in August
Etihad Airways is set to establish a direct aerial link between Abu Dhabi and Tashkent starting from August 17, according to the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan.
The announcement follows a meeting held on April 20 between Jasurbek Choriyev, the Deputy Minister of Transport, and Majed Al Marzouqi, the Chief Operating Officer of the Emirati flag carrier.
During the negotiations, the two parties reviewed the current state of aviation cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates and explored future growth opportunities. A primary focus of the discussion was the integration of Uzbekistan into the Etihad Airways global network through the commencement of regular scheduled flights. Although the airline had previously considered launching the route in March, the official start date for the Abu Dhabi – Tashkent – Abu Dhabi service has now been finalized for mid-August.
The Ministry of Transport anticipates that the restoration of direct flights between the two capitals will significantly enhance travel convenience. Passengers from Uzbekistan will gain seamless access to more than 70 international destinations across Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, and North America via the Etihad hub in Abu Dhabi.
In addition to the new route, Etihad Airways and Uzbekistan Airways have initiated talks regarding interline and code-sharing agreements. Such partnerships would allow travelers to book connecting flights using a single ticket, simplifying the transit process and improving luggage handling across both networks.
Ministry officials noted that these developments are expected to expand the geographic reach of flights available from Uzbekistan while reinforcing Tashkent’s position as a prominent regional aviation hub.
