Uzbekistan expands seasonal employment cooperation with US, UK, and South Korea
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has reviewed a series of proposals aimed at restructuring external labor migration, prioritizing the preparation of citizens for high-paying international roles and ensuring their robust protection abroad. A key focus of the presentation was the expansion of seasonal employment opportunities and the diversification of labor markets for Uzbek citizens.

To achieve these goals, the president instructed officials to build upon 12 recently signed agreements in the agricultural and tourism sectors. The government plans to intensify cooperation regarding seasonal labor with several high-income nations, including the United States, the United Kingdom, South Korea, France, Spain, and Turkey. This pivot toward seasonal work is part of a broader strategy to provide legal and lucrative employment pathways for the domestic workforce.
To streamline processes for both employers and job seekers, the "Xorijda Ish" (Work Abroad) platform will undergo a significant modernization. The update will include the integration of artificial intelligence technologies to simplify migration procedures and increase transparency. President Mirziyoyev emphasized that the Migration Agency's role must evolve beyond merely facilitating departures; it must also actively contribute to the domestic labor market by ensuring a steady supply of qualified personnel within the country.

The protection of migrants' rights remains a cornerstone of the national strategy. Currently, support services are operational in 37 countries to monitor the living and working conditions of Uzbekistani citizens, as well as their health. Recent data reveals that 48,000 people have received social assistance, 17,000 have been provided with legal support, and 6,000 have received direct financial aid while working abroad.
Furthermore, the president highlighted the need for stricter measures against unauthorized labor activities by foreign citizens and stateless persons within Uzbekistan. The new mandates include fostering interagency coordination to analyze and predict illegal migration trends, legalizing informal employment, and providing clearer guidance on residency and labor rules for those staying in the republic.
