Agriculture remains largest employer in Uzbekistan – Statistics Committee

The National Statistics Committee has released comprehensive data detailing the distribution of the country’s employed population across various economic activities.

According to the official statistics, the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector leads the labor market with 3,132.6 thousand people. This is followed by the manufacturing industry, which provides jobs for 1,699.6 thousand citizens, and the wholesale and retail trade sector with 1,507.9 thousand employees.

The construction industry also maintains a significant presence in the labor market, employing 1,450.5 thousand people. Meanwhile, the education sector accounts for 1,367.6 thousand workers.

Other key sectors include healthcare and social services, which employ 719.4 thousand people, and the public administration and defense sector, including compulsory social security, with 637.0 thousand employees. The transportation and storage industry provides livelihoods for 584.6 thousand individuals, while the hospitality and food services sector employs 389.5 thousand people.

In the more specialized and technical fields, professional, scientific, and technical activities employ 152.6 thousand people, followed by administrative and support services at 114.2 thousand. The information and communication sector, which has seen rapid growth in recent years, currently employs 108.8 thousand people.

The financial and insurance sector accounts for 82.9 thousand employees. Other infrastructure and service sectors such as electricity, gas, and steam supply (70.7 thousand), real estate operations (67.8 thousand), arts and entertainment (66.9 thousand), and the mining industry (66.7 thousand) represent smaller but vital portions of the economy. Water supply, sewerage, and waste management employ 52.8 thousand people, while various other types of services collectively account for a significant 2,661.8 thousand workers.
