Uzbekistan approves list of free medications for chronic and serious diseases
Uzbekistan has approved a comprehensive list of medicines to be provided free of charge to patients under a state reimbursement program scheduled to take effect from January 1, 2027. The initiative, finalized in coordination with the State Health Insurance Fund, aims to alleviate the financial burden on citizens suffering from long–term health conditions.

The approved list includes 69 medicines essential for treating a variety of serious conditions, such as cancer, mental health disorders, cardiovascular diseases, and endocrine diseases. The selection of these drugs was formalized through an order by the Minister of Health, which also specified the particular diseases covered by the new reimbursement scheme.
Under the program, the government will cover the full cost of medications prescribed for chronic conditions. Patients will be able to obtain these drugs at no cost from pharmacies that have entered into contracts with the State Health Insurance Fund. To access the benefits, patients must provide an electronic prescription issued by their family doctor.
The list of covered medications includes widely used treatments such as aspirin, bisoprolol, omeprazole, tramadol, ambroxol, potassium iodide, and heparin. The operational mechanism for the reimbursement and the specific procedures for dispensing these medicines are governed by a government resolution adopted on October 2, 2024.
