Data from the Customs Committee reveals that between January and April, 23,079 electric vehicles were imported into the country. The total value of these imports reached $309.3 million, with the average cost of an imported electric car standing at approximately $13,400. This represents a significant leap compared to the same period in 2025, when the republic imported 5,863 units valued at $88.5 million. Effectively, the volume of imports has grown nearly four times within a single year.
This sharp increase follows a notable slump observed at the beginning of 2025. For context, over 17,000 electric vehicles were brought into Uzbekistan during the first four months of 2024 – three times higher than the figures recorded in the corresponding months of 2025. The current 2026 data indicates not only a recovery from last year's downturn but also a new peak in demand for clean-energy transport.
Parallel to the rise in imports, domestic automotive manufacturing is also expanding. In 2025, the country produced a total of 257.8 thousand passenger cars, an increase of 36.7 thousand units compared to the output in 2024.
The government’s long-term industrial vision, outlined in the "Uzbekistan 2030" strategy, sets ambitious benchmarks for the domestic auto industry. Authorities aim to reach an annual production capacity of 1 million units over the next five years. Specifically, the roadmap forecasts the production of 550 thousand cars in 2027, 700 thousand in 2028, and 800 thousand by 2029, eventually hitting the million-unit milestone by the end of the decade.
