Solar and wind power output climbs 29% as Uzbekistan sets new energy records

Uzbekistan’s push toward a sustainable energy future reached a major milestone this week as the combined output from solar and wind power plants surpassed 4 billion kWh in less than five months.

According to the Ministry of Energy, this threshold was crossed at approximately 18:00 on May 14, marking a rapid acceleration in the country’s transition to renewable energy.

The data reveals that solar photovoltaic stations contributed the lion's share of this production, accounting for 2.315 billion kWh, or over 50% of the total. Wind farms generated the remaining 1.685 billion kWh, representing roughly 42% of the output. Compared to the same period in 2025, green energy production has surged by 898 million kWh, a significant 29% increase.

The speed at which Uzbekistan is reaching these milestones has increased noticeably. It took only 24 days to generate the most recent 1 billion kWh, starting from April 20. In contrast, previous increments of 1 billion kWh earlier this year took 44, 35, and 31 days respectively. This pace even eclipses the peak summer performance of 2025, when the same volume was produced over a 26-day period.

A new daily record was also established on May 13, when solar and wind facilities generated 62.4 million kWh in a single 24-hour window. This output accounted for 29% of the nation’s total electricity generation for that day, surpassing the previous record set on April 29 by 10.4 million kWh. When hydroelectric power is included, the total contribution of renewables to the daily energy mix reached an impressive 59%.

The shift toward renewables is yielding substantial environmental and resource-saving benefits. Since the beginning of the year, the use of solar and wind power has allowed Uzbekistan to save 1.066 billion cubic meters of natural gas and prevent 2.3 million tons of harmful emissions from entering the atmosphere.

When hydroelectricity is factored into the total renewable energy equation, the year-to-date volume rises to 6.16 billion kWh. This is equivalent to the total electricity consumption of 4.4 million households over the same period. This broader integration of green sources has resulted in a cumulative saving of 1.6 billion cubic meters of natural gas so far this year.
