Uzbekistan prepares to welcome over 795,000 first-graders in 2026/2027 school year
More than 795,000 children are expected to enroll in first grade across Uzbekistan's schools for the 2026/2027 academic year.
The figure was announced at a meeting chaired by Ezoza Karimova, Minister of Preschool and School Education, where officials discussed preparations for the new school year, admissions procedures, final state examinations, and the organization of summer camps.
One of the notable developments this year is the significant expansion of the online school admissions system. It now covers 5,690 schools across 135 districts and cities – up from 1,950 schools in 64 districts previously. All schools in Tashkent city and Bukhara region have been fully transferred to the online admissions system.
Specialized schools, presidential schools, creative and sports schools, and other specialist educational institutions are also accepting applications online. So far, more than 150,000 applications have been submitted for places at these schools.
Presidential schools draw strong demand
Around 55,000 applicants are expected to apply for presidential schools. The first round of entrance examinations is planned to be held in a single shift across 121 large-capacity venues throughout the country.
The meeting also addressed summer holiday arrangements. The Ministry issued instructions to ensure adequate conditions for hundreds of thousands of children to rest at health and recreation facilities within the ministry's network.
