How to enroll your child in primary school in Uzbekistan in 2026

Who can enroll in first grade

Children who turn 7 years old in the year of enrollment are eligible to start first grade. This requirement is established by the Law. For the 2026–2027 academic year, children born on or before 31 December 2019 are eligible for enrollment.

The admission process takes place in two stages.

• 20 June – 31 July. Applications are accepted from parents whose permanent residence is within the school's designated catchment area. Admission to the assigned school is guaranteed.
• 1–31 August. Applications are accepted for schools outside the child's catchment area if places are still available. Admission is not guaranteed. If no places remain, the child will be enrolled in the school assigned to their registered address.

How to find your assigned school

Each public school has a designated catchment area, which includes nearby streets or neighborhoods. Under Uzbek law, priority is given to children who are permanently registered within that catchment area.

You can find your assigned school in three ways:

• by searching on my.maktab.uz;
• through the "First Grade Enrollment" service on my.gov.uz;
• by using the interactive map published by the Ministry of Preschool and School Education.

You can also contact the school directly or your district education department for assistance.

How to apply through my.gov.uz

Parents can apply for first-grade enrollment through Uzbekistan's Unified Portal of Interactive Public Services (my.gov.uz). A OneID account is required.

Step 1. Sign in to my.gov.uz

Log in using your OneID account. You cannot submit an application without signing in.

Open the "First Grade School Enrollment" service on my.gov.uz, then click "Get the Service."

Step 2. Enter your child's information

First, specify whether you are the child's parent or legal guardian.

If your child's information is already available in the government databases, it will appear automatically. If not, enter the child's PINFL manually.

Step 3. Complete the application

Fill in all required fields.

You'll need to provide:

• the language of instruction;
• your phone number;
• whether the applicant belongs to the military personnel category;
• any other information requested by the system.

Click "Next" to continue.

Step 4. Choose a school

The system will display your child's permanent registration address.

Then select:

• the region;
• the district or city;
• the public school.

If your child is applying to the school assigned to your registered address, it will usually be selected automatically.

Step 5. Submit the application

Review the information and submit your application.

Immediately after submission, its status will change to "Under review." You can track its progress in your personal account on my.gov.uz.

Once the application has been reviewed, you'll receive an SMS asking you to choose a date and time to visit the school.

Step 6. Schedule your school visit

After receiving the SMS, open the application again through your personal account.

On the scheduled date, parents should visit the school together with their child. Bring the original documents required to complete the enrollment process. After the documents have been verified, the school will confirm the child's enrollment.

The enrollment decision will appear in your personal account on my.gov.uz. Applications are processed within three working days.

How to apply through MyMaktab

Parents can also apply for first-grade enrollment through the MyMaktab platform. After submitting the application, its status can be tracked in the user's personal account.

What documents are required for first-grade enrollment

Most information about the child and the parent is retrieved automatically from government databases. However, parents must bring the original documents when visiting the school.

The following documents are required:

• the child's birth certificate;
• the passport or ID card of one parent or legal guardian;
• the child's medical record (Form No. 026);
• the child's vaccination record (Form No. 063);
• four passport-size photographs (3.5 × 4.5 cm) if the application is submitted directly to the school;
• if the application is submitted by someone other than a parent, a document confirming the legal guardian's authority;
• for eligible families, documents confirming entitlement to benefits or preferential admission.

After the documents have been verified, the school confirms the child's enrollment.

What happens during the school visit

Most public schools do not conduct interviews. The visit is intended to verify the documents and complete the enrollment process. The admissions committee is not allowed to assess a child's academic knowledge.

A different rule applies to schools and classes where the language of instruction is not Uzbek, such as Russian, English, or Karakalpak.

Under the Ministry's admission regulations, the admissions committee checks whether the child has basic conversational skills in the chosen language of instruction. The assessment questionnaire is published on the Ministry's website and displayed at the school by 20 June.

If a child does not have sufficient conversational skills, the committee may recommend transferring to a class taught in Uzbek or to another school. This is not considered a refusal of admission, as the child will still be offered a place in school.

What to do if your application is rejected

Under the Ministry's admission regulations, an admissions committee may reject an application only in the following cases:

• the application contains incorrect information, such as an error in the child's age or registered address;
• the child's medical certificate states that they cannot attend a mainstream public school;
• the child does not have basic conversational skills in the language of instruction at the selected school.

If parents apply to a school outside their catchment area, there is one additional reason for rejection:

• there are no places available.

Any other reason is unlawful.

A school cannot refuse admission because a child is "not ready for school," "cannot read," "failed an interview," or because the school "accepts only children from the local neighborhood." Such reasons are contrary to the Ministry's admission regulations.

If the application contains errors that can be corrected, parents may submit a new application. If the refusal is based on any other reason, parents may file a complaint with the Ministry of Preschool and School Education or their district education department.

How to enroll your child in a private school

There is no single admission procedure for private schools in Uzbekistan. Each school sets its own application deadlines, admission requirements, tuition fees, and enrollment process.

Applications cannot be submitted through my.gov.uz. Instead, parents apply directly through the school's official website, an online application form, a Telegram bot, or the school's admissions office.

After receiving the application, the school contacts the parents to explain the next steps. Depending on the school's admission policy, the child may be invited for an interview or an entrance assessment.

What documents are required for private school admission

The required documents vary by school, but most private schools ask parents to provide:

• the child's birth certificate;
• the passport or ID card of one parent or legal guardian;
• a photograph of the child;
• medical records, if required by the school's admission policy.

How to transfer your child to another public school

The government temporarily suspends applications for transfers between public schools from 26 May to 31 July 2026 while the enrollment system is being prepared for first-grade admissions.

Applications for school transfers will reopen on 1 August 2026 through the government's online services. In most cases, parents will also need to provide the child's academic record and report card.

How entrance assessments work

Many private schools conduct an interview or a short assessment before admitting a child. The purpose is not to eliminate applicants, but to determine the child's level of readiness and whether they can begin first grade immediately.
