How the Emirates recruitment process works?

After reviewing applications, Emirates invites candidates to one of two recruitment events: Open Day or Assessment Day. Which event a candidate attends depends on how they applied and the recruiters' decision.

Open Day

Open Day is an open recruitment event that anyone can attend without receiving an invitation in advance.

Competition is typically very high. Throughout the day, recruiters conduct an initial screening and invite the strongest candidates to continue to the next stages of the selection process.

Assessment Day

Assessment Day is an invitation-only recruitment event.

Before issuing invitations, Emirates recruiters review each applicant's CV and application form and invite those who best match the job requirements.

Because significantly fewer candidates attend Assessment Day, competition is generally lower than at Open Day. For this reason, a well-prepared CV plays a crucial role. A strong application increases the chances of receiving a direct invitation to Assessment Day.

How to write a CV for Emirates?

Your CV is the first stage of the selection process. Its quality can determine whether you receive an invitation to Assessment Day or have to attend an Open Day instead.

When preparing your CV, Emirates applicants are generally advised to:

  • keep the CV to one page;

  • include a professional photo taken against a white background (women are typically advised to wear neat makeup and have their hair tied back);

  • include height;

  • add a short personal profile at the beginning of the CV;

  • describe their customer service or hospitality experience and language skills;

  • highlight skills that are important for cabin crew, such as communication, teamwork, resilience and problem-solving;

  • carefully proofread the document for spelling and grammar mistakes.

According to candidates who have attended the recruitment process, women are generally advised to wear a classic business outfit consisting of a black knee-length pencil skirt, a white blouse, a black blazer and closed-toe black heels. Hair is typically styled in a neat bun, makeup should be understated, and many applicants choose to wear red lipstick in keeping with Emirates' signature look.

You should also bring:

  • a printed copy of your CV;

  • your passport and any other documents listed in your invitation;

  • your Emirates Careers account login details.

Assessment Day usually lasts most of the day, so it is advisable to arrive early. Late arrivals may not be allowed to participate.

What happens during Emirates Assessment Day?

Assessment Day consists of several stages, each designed to evaluate different skills and qualities.

Self-introduction

Candidates are usually given around two minutes to introduce themselves. Speak confidently, avoid long pauses and be prepared to answer follow-up questions from the recruiters.

Group exercise

Candidates are divided into small groups and asked to complete a task together.

Recruiters are not looking for the strongest leader. Instead, they assess how well candidates work as part of a team—listening to others, contributing ideas, respecting different opinions and finding compromises.

English language assessment

This stage typically consists of a written test that evaluates grammar, reading comprehension and overall English proficiency.

Final interview

The final interview focuses on your previous work experience, motivation and the way you handle challenging situations.

Common interview questions include:

  • Why do you want to work for Emirates?

  • Tell us about a time when you had to resolve a conflict with a customer.

Candidates are generally encouraged to answer behavioural questions using the STAR method:

  • Situation – describe the context;

  • Task – explain your responsibility;

  • Action – describe what you did;

  • Result – explain the outcome.
