Uzbekistan may introduce mandatory digital labeling for jewelry
Uzbekistan is planning to introduce mandatory digital labeling for jewelry and other products made from precious metals and gemstones as part of efforts to strengthen market oversight and curb the illegal trade of such goods.
A draft government resolution outlining the proposal has been published for public discussion.
According to the document, the initiative is intended to improve the accounting and monitoring of the circulation of jewelry and other products made from precious metals and gemstones, enhance regulatory oversight, prevent illegal trade, and ensure consumers have access to high-quality and reliable products.
Under the proposal, a pilot project on digital labeling will be carried out under a temporary regulation through December 30, 2027.
Following the pilot phase, the government plans to prepare and submit to the Cabinet of Ministers, by July 1, 2028, a draft regulation establishing the procedure for mandatory digital labeling of jewelry and related products.
If approved, digital labeling will become mandatory from January 1, 2029, for all businesses engaged in the production or import of jewelry and other products made from precious metals and gemstones
Information on the digital labeling of products and the tracking of their circulation throughout the supply chain will be collected and processed through the Asl Belgisi national product labeling and traceability information system, operated by CRPT Turon.
Public consultations on the draft resolution will continue until July 21.
