Hundreds of pharmacies flagged for violating medicine pricing rules in Uzbekistan

The Competition Promotion and Consumer Protection Committee has identified 237 pharmacies that exceeded the legally permitted markups on medicines during the second quarter of 2026, with unjustified revenue totaling UZS 1.9 billion.

According to the committee, authorities recorded 148,810 cases of excessive markups during the reporting period. The violations were detected at 33 wholesale and 204 retail pharmacies.

The findings were based on data collected through the Fair Tech unified information system, which receives pricing information automatically from the tax authorities.

The committee said all identified violations have been recalculated in favor of consumers, ensuring that customers are reimbursed for excessive charges. Measures have also been taken to protect the rights of the broader consumer public.

Officials said inspections of medicine pricing will continue, and legal action will be taken against pharmacies found to have violated the regulations. The committee also announced that the names of offending pharmacies will be published in the public domain.
