According to the Department under the Prosecutor General's Office, a pre-investigation inquiry in Sharof Rashidov district found that officials from the district Road Maintenance Department failed to carry out asphalt paving work on six internal roads. Instead, they allegedly sold 634 tonnes of asphalt worth UZS 348.7 million for cash and used the proceeds for personal purposes.
In a separate case in Parkent district, investigators allege that officials from the local Road Maintenance Department colluded to misappropriate UZS 324 million in budget funds.
According to investigators, the officials approved fraudulent invoices stating that 540 tonnes of asphalt had been supplied by G.W. LLC, even though the material had never been delivered. The funds were allegedly embezzled through misappropriation.
Criminal cases have been opened under Article 167 of the Criminal Code, which covers embezzlement and misappropriation of property. The investigation is ongoing.
