The proposal follows a video conference chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on July 27, during which officials were instructed to assess the infrastructure and additional generating capacity needed to switch heating systems to electricity in 1,916 neighborhoods that are not connected to the natural gas grid.
Speaking about the initiative, Energy Minister Sherzod Khodjayev said that nearly 2,000 neighborhoods across Uzbekistan currently remain outside the centralized natural gas supply system.
According to the minister, the president has instructed the government to introduce a system of individualized electricity tariffs that takes into account regional conditions and the availability of energy resources.
"Since natural gas does not reach these areas, consumers who use electricity for heating are entitled to a discount," Khodjayev said.
Officials have been given three months to calculate the infrastructure upgrades and additional electricity capacity required to convert heating systems to electric power in the 1,916 gas-free neighborhoods.
The proposed preferential tariff is expected to ease the financial burden on households in areas where electricity serves as the primary source of heating due to the absence of natural gas.
