A pre-investigation inquiry conducted by the department's Tashkent City Directorate found that agency officials authorized salary payments totaling UZS 931.6 million to two employees, identified by their initials B.D. and N.A., for periods during which they had not actually worked.
Investigators also found that eight employees who had been subjected to disciplinary sanctions were unlawfully paid a combined UZS 88.5 million while those penalties remained in force, in violation of the Labor Code.
A criminal case has been opened under Article 167 of the Criminal Code, which covers embezzlement or misappropriation through appropriation or waste. Investigative actions are currently underway.
The Migration Agency has previously come under scrutiny after reports that it charged prospective workers traveling to South Korea service fees exceeding UZS 20 million.
