Sherzodova was the first Uzbek athlete to strike gold on Thursday, winning the women’s C1 200m canoe sprint. She finished first in the final to secure Uzbekistan’s second gold medal of the Games.
The next gold came in rowing, where Nurmatov and Safaraliyev won the lightweight men’s double sculls (LM2x). The pair, who became world champions in the event earlier this year, crossed the finish line first to claim the Asian Games title.
Uzbekistan then added another gold in shooting. Vladimir Svechnikov won the men’s 10m air pistol event with a score of 244.3 points, setting a new Asian Games record in the process.
Svechnikov’s victory also ended a 32-year wait for Uzbekistan to win an Asian Games gold medal in shooting.
The three golds came alongside a strong haul of silver and bronze medals for Uzbekistan’s rowing and canoeing teams. Anna Prakaten finished second in the women’s singles rowing event, while Shahboz Kholmurzaev took silver in the men’s singles.
Mehroj Mamatkulov and Pavel Sorin won silver in the men’s double sculls, while Anna Aksyonova, Maria Sergeeva, Raykhona Sattorova and Aydana Smetullaeva finished second in the women’s four. Artur Guliyev and Vladlen Denisov also took silver in canoeing.
The two bronze medals were won by the women’s kayak pair of Arina Tanatmisheva and Ekaterina Shubina in the 500m event, and the rowing duo of Maksim Golubev and Alisher Turdiev.
With the latest results, Uzbekistan’s medal tally has risen to four gold, ten silver and seven bronze medals, for a total of 21 medals.
The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games are being held in Japan from September 19 to October 4, with Uzbekistan represented by 396 athletes across 42 sports.
