The increased harvest is expected to create additional opportunities for local textile manufacturers to expand production of yarn, fabrics and finished garments, while boosting the industry's capacity to process locally grown cotton, the Ministry of Agriculture said.

Cotton picking is still underway in some parts of the country. Farmers are continuing to collect seed cotton, which will be used to prepare planting material for next year's sowing campaign.

The plants must be allowed to reach full natural maturity to ensure high-quality seeds for future crops.

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan is developing and testing new cotton varieties designed to withstand desert conditions, extreme heat and saline or sandy soils. Such research is being conducted, among other places, in Alat district of Bukhara region.

The work aims to expand the areas suitable for cotton cultivation and ensure stable yields in regions with challenging climatic and soil conditions.
