Two Kyrgyz citizens killed at Uzbekistan border
It was reported that they disobeyed border guards and, during an attempt to detain them, the guards opened fire.
The Kyrgyz Border Service announced that two Kyrgyz citizens were killed at the border with Uzbekistan, 24.kg reported.
According to the information, on 25 August police received a report that two residents of Aygyr-Jal village in Chatkal district of Jalal-Abad region had gone missing. On 28 August, during a working meeting, Uzbek border representatives informed that on 15 August, in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan, at the junction of the Kyrgyz, Uzbek and Kazakh borders, an Uzbek border patrol had identified two unidentified individuals. According to the Uzbek side, the individuals disobeyed the guards, and during an attempt to detain them, the border guards opened fire. As a result, both individuals sustained gunshot wounds and died.
It was reported that on 31 August, relatives of the missing Kyrgyz citizens traveled to Uzbekistan and confirmed the identities of the deceased. On 1 September, through the Baymak border checkpoint, the bodies of the two Kyrgyz citizens were handed over to the Kyrgyz side and delivered to the Kerben morgue for examination.
In addition, the border authorities of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan agreed to jointly investigate the site of the incident starting from 2 September. The Uzbek side stated that it is ready to return the belongings of the deceased – three horses and a tent – to Kyrgyzstan.
It was emphasized that a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of the Kyrgyz citizens’ deaths is underway, and its results will be made public.
