On February 13, Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on measures to increase soil fertility and combat its degradation. The document was published in the Lex.uz database.

In 2024-2025, as an experiment, land users will be allocated budget subsidies for work to increase fertility and productivity. The increase in humus content in areas allocated for cotton crops is especially noted.

The subsidy amount will be 1 million soums per hectare. The money will be allocated through the online platform of the Ministry of Agriculture “Agrosubsidy”.

70% of the amount will be allocated this year. The remaining portion will be distributed in 2025 based on the conclusion of the Cotton Council on an increase in average yield by at least 10% compared to the previous season.

The Cabinet of Ministers was instructed to approve within a week a temporary regulation on subsidizing work to increase fertility and productivity. The government will also draw up a list of districts where this practice will be tested.

To combat the degradation of farmland, a special commission is being formed under the leadership of Advisor to the President and former Deputy Prime Minister Shukhrat Ganiyev. He will make recommendations for increasing the humus content in the soil.
