Uzbekistan, Iran aim to strengthen trade-economic cooperation

On April 5, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Foreign Minister of Iran, Mohammad Javad Zarif.
According to the press service of the head of state, the parties discussed the current state of bilateral relations and prospects for the strengthening of cooperation in the political, trade-economic, investment, transport-logistics and other spheres.
In addition, during the meeting, special attention was paid to issues of economic collaboration, the development of trade relations and the promotion of new cooperation projects.

“The importance of building up cooperation in the transport and communication sphere, including the use of Iranian seaports and the development of the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman transport corridor, was noted,” the statement said.
The sides also discussed issues of ensuring regional security and advancing the peace process in Afghanistan.

The head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry highly appreciated the efforts of Uzbekistan to facilitate peace negotiations on Afghanistan, to involve the IRA in regional trade and economic cooperation.
