In order to maintain the balance of energy and water resources in Uzbekistan and provide consumers with sufficient electricity, on May 2, 2020, JSC “National Electric Networks of Uzbekistan” signed an agreement with “Barqi Tojik” for May-September of this year.
According to the information service of JSC “National Electric Networks of Uzbekistan”, currently the import operation is carried out through two 220 kV high-voltage power lines. The agreement also includes an increase in imports through 500 kV power networks for the summer months when the demand for electricity and water resources increases.
During the agricultural irrigation season, in order to purposefully use water accumulated in water reservoirs, Tajikistan’s hydropower plants export electricity to Uzbekistan, which increases the flow of natural water into Uzbekistan’s water reserves.
