Turkmenistan is expected to host a summit, respectively with the heads of the founding states of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, in the Avaza tourist zone on the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea on August 24, 2018, reports local media.

The relevant decree was signed by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at a joint meeting of the government and the State Security Council in the city of Turkmenbashi (formerly Krasnovodsk).

Within the framework of the summit, the meetings of the Interstate Commission for Sustainable Development of IFAS, the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination and the Board of the Fund will be held.

It is expected that all presidents of the founding countries of the Fund - Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan - will attend at the summit.

The International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea was established in accordance with the decision of the heads of Central Asian states, adopted on January 4, 1993 in Tashkent. Its goal is to improve the socio-economic and environmental situation in the Aral Sea basin.
Turkmenistan is the chairman of the International Fund for the Salvation of the Sea for the period 2017-2019.
