Samarkand to host the Asian Forum on Human Rights on November 22-23
The Asian Forum on Human Rights will be held in Samarkand on November 22-23, 2018. The Uzbek delegation, within the framework of the visit to France recently, also invited the town council of Paris to this forum.
The Asian Forum for Human Rights is held on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the UN Human Rights Declaration. The initiative to hold this forum in Samarkand was articulated by the Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev last year at the UN General Assembly.
In 2017, the international human rights community highly appreciated a number of activities executed by Uzbekistan. In particular, releasing 16 "political prisoners" from jail and practices of eliminating forced labor had a deep impact on the image of the country.
These reforms have attracted the attention of “Human Rights Watch” organization and Zeid Raad Al Hussein, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, visited Uzbekistan.
