The international environmental leaders traveled to Uzbekistan to participate in the 8th Assembly of the Global Environment Facility, which recently commenced its sessions in Samarkand.

During the discussions, the parties focused on several critical issues impacting the Central Asian region, including combating desertification and land degradation, monitoring air quality, preserving biodiversity, and ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources.

Saida Mirziyoyeva expressed her appreciation to the leadership of both prominent institutions for backing Uzbekistan's ongoing green reforms and contributing directly to the advancement of practical environmental solutions. She also extended her congratulations on the successful hosting of the historic GEF Assembly in Samarkand.

Following the opening ceremony of the assembly, a cooperative memorandum was signed between the Secretariat of the Global Environment Facility and the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change of Uzbekistan. The newly finalized agreement establishes a framework for expanding practical interactions, which includes setting up internship programs and professional exchange initiatives tailored specifically for local environmental specialists.

The agreement aims to catalyze joint initiatives focused on mitigating climate change, preserving natural biodiversity, halting land degradation, upgrading local waste management systems, and strengthening the country's broader international ecological partnerships.
