Japan supports Uzbekistan’s initiative to build a nuclear power plant
The Asian Development Bank Institute organized a seminar on the topic “Fukushima Nuclear Disaster and Health Risk Management” in Japan. It was attended by the representatives of 12 countries, including the delegation of UzAtom Agency, Kun.uz correspondent reports.
During the event, information on the measures taken by Asian countries to prevent and eliminate the effects of natural disasters and ADBI’s related programs was provided.
As part of the seminar, the participants visited Fukushima Prefecture as well as the Fukushima Regional Center for Disaster Risk Management, the Fukushima Institute for Renewable Energy, the Fukushima Agricultural Technology Center, the Soma-Futaba Fishermen’s Cooperatives Association, the Fukushima Robotics Test Center and other facilities.
Furthermore, within the framework of the visit, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, Director General of the Uzbek agency, held high-level meetings and talks with leading Japanese companies and state bodies.
The Uzbek delegation visited the Tokai nuclear power plant and held a meeting with Shinjiro Takeda, the Director at International Nuclear Energy Cooperation under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, and Toshio Kodama, President of the Japan Atomic Energy Agency.
It should be noted that the Japanese side supported the Uzbekistan’s initiative to build nuclear power plants using VVER technology and expressed readiness to cooperate and exchange experience, primarily in the field of personnel training.
