OSCE High Commissioner for National Minorities: Uzbekistan is a model of harmonious coexistence of different nations and peoples

On November 12, 2018, Dilyor Hakimov, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the Kingdom of Belgium, met with the OSCE High Commissioner for National Minorities Lamberto Zannier in The Hague (the Netherlands).

The former OSCE Secretary General highly appreciated the current reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan, which are aimed at strengthening regional and international cooperation in Central Asia and the organization as a whole.

As the High Commissioner noted, Uzbekistan, being a multinational country with more than 100 different ethnic groups and minorities, is a model of harmonious coexistence of different nations and peoples. In this regard, he highly commended the thoughtful policy of democratic transformations conducted under the leadership of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in which the interests of a person according to the formula “not people should serve the state, but the state should serve the interests of people,” remain in the center of attention.

It should be noted that December 10 marks the 70th anniversary of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This date has a special meaning for Uzbekistan. A complex of various projects and initiatives is being implemented in the republic within the framework of the Decree of the President of our country “On the program of events dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights” dated May 5, 2018. The culmination of these events will be the holding of the Asian Forum on Human Rights in Samarkand on November 22-23, to which representatives of the UN, OSCE and other international organizations, heads of institutions engaged in the protection of human rights on the Asian continent, legal scholars and others are invited.
