President of Uzbekistan to visit Switzerland in 2019

On November 19, 2018, the fifth round of Uzbek-Swiss political consultations was held in Bern.

The delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Dilshod Akhatov and the delegation of the Swiss Confederation was led by Deputy State Secretary of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Christina Marti Lang.

During the meeting, the current state of bilateral relations and prospects for strengthening ties in political, economic, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres were discussed.

The sides, at the event, confirmed their mutual interest in the preparation and successful conduct of Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to Switzerland in 2019.

Special attention was paid to deepening cooperation in the trade, economic, investment and financial fields. The parties stressed their readiness to diversify mutual deliveries of goods and services, to elaborate joint investment projects, and to widely involve business representatives of the two countries in cooperation. In this context, a proposal was considered for holding the 8th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation in the first half of the coming year.

On the same day, talks were held with the head of the International Inter-Parliamentary Relations Service of the National Council of the Federal Assembly (Switzerland) Claudio Fischer, State Secretary of the Federal Department of Finance Jörg Gasser and the newly appointed Special Envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland for water issues Guy Bonvin.
