Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis held talks with his Tajik counterpart

On Nov. 20, Chairman of the Lower House of the Tajik Parliament Shukurjon Zukhurov received the Chairman of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Nurdinjon Ismoilov in Dushanbe, Tajik media reported.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the current state and prospects of Tajik-Uzbek cooperation, including issues of inter-parliamentary interactions.

“We attach great importance to your visit and are confident that it will open a new page in the Uzbek-Tajik inter-parliamentary relations and will make a significant contribution to strengthening ties between the parliaments of our countries,” said Shukurjon Zukhurov at the beginning of the conversation.

“We hope that the inter-parliamentary contacts of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will continue to play an important role in strengthening the economic, humanitarian and cultural components of our relations, expanding inter-regional ties,” he stressed.

“It is already clear that the agreements reached during the state visits of our Presidents are practical. Republics abolished visas for up to 30 days, established flights and deepened trade and economic cooperation. Only this year more than a million Tajik citizens visited their relatives in Uzbekistan and more than a million people from Uzbekistan visited Tajikistan. And this shows the positive dynamic of relations between our states,” Mr. Zukhurov added.

According to him, over the past year, the parties have signed over 180 agreements and contracts whose value exceeds $ 730 million.

At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to further develop and strengthen Tajik-Uzbek inter-parliamentary relations and contribute to the implementation of the agreements reached by the presidents of the two countries.

Earlier it was reported that the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis Nurdinjon Ismoilov would pay a three-day official visit to Tajikistan and meet with the president of the republic Emomali Rakhmon.
