Uzbekistan to build 4 large and 16 small hydropower plants in five years
Uzbekistan plans to complete construction of 4 large (with a capacity of over 30 MW) and 16 small hydroelectric power plants within five years. Besides, it is considered to modernize 21 existing stations in the period mentioned, Kun.uz correspondent reports with reference to the draft concept of the hydropower industry until 2024.
Total cost of the projects will exceed $ 2.6 billion and about $ 600 million of this money will be covered through loans.
As a result, an annual increase of the electricity generation will be ensured by 2.8 billion kWh. At the same time, total number of stations will reach 57 with the capacity of 9.3 billion kWh of electricity generation in the structure of “Uzbekgidroenergo”.
Currently, there are two main electricity generating companies in the country. “Uzbekenergo” JSC generates about 90% of total electricity production at thermal power plants and “Uzbekgidroenergo” JSC with 37 hydropower plants provides the rest through unified power grid.
