Uzbek Prosecutor General met with a Kazakh counterpart in Astana
On December 5, a bilateral meeting of Prosecutor General of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kayrat Kojamjarov with Prosecutor General of Uzbekistan Otabek Murodov took place in Astana, Kazakhstan. The sides positively assessed the bilateral relations established between the oversight agencies within the framework of concluded international treaties. Issues of cooperation in the criminal law sphere, including extradition, repatriation of convicts and return of criminal proceeds were separately discussed.
"Uzbekistan is our main partner in matters of international cooperation. Yearly dozens of criminals are extradited and necessary legal assistance in criminal cases is being provided," Mr. Kojamjarov noted. According to him, over the past 2 years, 5 persons have been extradited from Uzbekistan to Kazakhstan, 127 citizens were released from the Kazakh side. In addition, 10 criminal cases have been transferred to the Uzbek side for further criminal prosecution.
At the end of the meeting, the head of the Kazakhstan supervisory authority congratulated the Uzbek colleague on the upcoming state holiday - Constitution Day of Uzbekistan. In turn, Otabek Murodov praised the emerging inter-departmental cooperation and expressed readiness for its further development.
