Migrant flow from Uzbekistan to Russia decreased by 70%
In recent years, an influx of migrants has compensated for the natural decline in the population of Russia and no longer covers the reduction in the number of citizens, Kun.uz correspondent writes referring to the report of the Russian Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat).
The population of Russia in January-October 2018 has decreased by 78,700 people. Natural decline of the population over 10 months was 180,500 people and migration increase – 101,800.
“Thus, the migration inflow compensated for the decrease only by 56.4%. According to the results of the year, experts predict that the trend will not change,” the report said.
Migration growth in 2018 compared with 2017 has decreased by 43% (or 76,600 people).
Largely, the influx of migrants from Ukraine (by 74%), Uzbekistan (70%) and Kyrgyzstan (40%) has declined. The CIS countries are the main donors of migrants for Russia, but this resource has been exhausting itself.
The main reason for the natural decline of the Russian population is a drop in the birth rate. This trend is connected with the fact that a small number of generation of the 1990s has entered the childbearing age.
From the beginning of the year, about 15,000 people have left Uzbekistan for permanent residence abroad, 46% of them chose Russia. However, it remains the main country for migrant workers, as it accounts for 70–80% of all money transfers.
