Russia hands over military equipment to Kyrgyzstan. The Kyrgyz Republic plans to redistribute it along the borders with Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, China

The official handover ceremony of the Russian military and technical assistance to Kyrgyzstan was held today at the square outside the Government House in Bishkek, Akipress said.

Russian Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Andrei Krutko presented the vehicles and equipment to President Sooronbai Jeenbekov.

Russia has provided military and technical assistance under the agreement between two countries on technical assistance in connection with Kyrgyzstan’s Eurasian Economic Union accession.

The first consignment of the equipment for modernization of the customs checkpoints of Kyrgyzstan was delivered by December 15, 2018. It included 125 vehicles and engineering machines: 108 all-terrain vehicles for transporting people and goods; 2 tractor cars; 2 backhoe loaders; 2 truck cranes; 4 ambulances; 5 special purpose vehicles. Two drilling rigs will be delivered.

The agreement on technical assistance to Kyrgyzstan to modernize borders beyond border crossing points was signed between Kyrgyzstan and Russia in connection with Kyrgyzstan’s joining the Eurasian Economic Union, State Border Service Chairman of the Kyrgyz Republic Ularbek Sharsheyev said. “Three stages of this process were identified, including construction of frontier post complexes to support normal functioning of frontier posts. The second stage included handover of vehicles in view of climate and terrain conditions of the country. The third stage will include delivery of technical supplies for border guarding.”

The handed over vehicles and equipment will be distributed along the outer border of the Eurasian Economic Union – on the borders of Kyrgyzstan with Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and China. “At the moment, the already available resources and the provided vehicles and equipment will meet the needs of Border Service of Kyrgyzstan in full,” Ularbek Sharsheyev noted.
