Man sentenced to 15 days’ imprisonment after appealing to a governor in Samarkand
On February 10, the governor of Kattakurgan city Muzaffar Khoshimov took part in the program “Open dialogue”, Zarnews reports.
According to the publication, during the program, 73 citizens addressed to the governor. One of the local residents Jamshid Arzikulov asked the governor to help with work. He stated that he had an alimony debt and he urgently needed to find a job.
With assistance of the administration he was employed at the department of urban development.
“I am the wife of Jamshid Arzikulov. He was divorced. As soon as he got a job, law enforcement officers came and said that he had an alimony debt. As a result, he was put in jail for 15 days. I was told that I have to pay 456,000 soums. Think yourself, if he had this money, he first of all would have paid alimony. I am also unemployed. It’s hard for us,” his wife said.
It should be recalled that in July 2018, changes were made to the legislation on alimony.
According to the changes, a citizen who does not pay alimony will be imprisoned for 15 days. In addition, persons who are obliged to pay alimony will be brought to criminal liability (restriction of freedom up to 3 years) if they do not pay alimony within 2 months.
