Uzbekistan asks Russia to lift the ban on import of meat and dairy products
Uzbekistan asked Russia to lift the ban on the import of Uzbek meat and processed dairy products, which was introduced in 2003, Kun.uz correspondent reports.
The second meeting of the joint working group on cooperation in agriculture with the participation of Uzbek Agriculture Minister Jamshid Khodjayev and the Russian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sergey Levin took place in Tashkent on March 6.
“The Uzbek side proposed to cancel the quarantine ban on the import of Uzbek meat and processed dairy products to the Russian Federation,” Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Agriculture notes.
In 2003, Russia, due to certain diseases, announced a ban on meat and dairy products imported from Uzbekistan, which still exists today.
The ministry noted that Sergey Levin expressed his readiness to assist in the consideration of this issue by the Russian side and suggested that the Uzbekistan State Veterinary Service again send information about the epidemiological situation in the country and, if necessary, develop a joint program to combat foot-and-mouth disease.
