On July 16, 2019, in New York, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of Oliy Majlis Sodik Safoyev met with the Director of the Picker Center for Executive Education at Columbia University William Eimicke.

According to the MFA press service, at the meeting, a constructive exchange of views on implementation of joint educational programs in the field of training and retraining personnel working in public and private financial organizations took place.

As Dr. William Eimicke noted, the scientific community of Columbia University is watching with great interest the reforms taking place in Uzbekistan. The Board of Trustees of the university supported the proposal to initiate cooperation between Columbia University and Capital Market Development Agency of Uzbekistan in education and introduction of a system of continuing education for managers in the financial sector.

Following the talks, a Memorandum was signed between Columbia University and Capital Market Development Agency on the implementation of educational programs and improving financial literacy.

The memorandum provides for long-term systematic cooperation of the parties in the field of training managing staff. Within the framework of the document, the parties decided to establish cooperation on economic research and other academic activities. Areas of general interest include providing support for financial literacy programs, sharing knowledge in the form of behavior lectures, meetings, seminars, symposia and conferences.

As a first step in the implementation of the memorandum, it is planned to organize the visit of William Eimicke to Uzbekistan in the fall of this year to conduct a series of seminars and trainings for managers of government bodies involved in the country’s financial-economic activities. In addition, the Agency for Capital Market Development will be included as a partner in the “Capstone Projects” research program for Columbia University students who receive a doctoral degree in financial and investment areas.
