Shavkat Mirziyoyev calls khokim of Khorezm region enemy of his policy

On August 2, under the chairmanship of the President of Uzbekistan, a video-conference meeting was held to analyze the ongoing work on the development of small business and entrepreneurship.

During the event, Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed his opinion on demolitions and criticized the situation in the Fergana, Khorezm and Kashkadarya regions.

“One of the enemies of my policy is the khokim of the Khorezm region Mr. Ermanov. When I said that we would bring the khokim of the city of Urgench Shukhrat Abdullayev to criminal liability, you tried to become his attorney and asked the Prime Minister not to take him from office. If you don’t know how to work properly, why were you engaged in demolishing buildings? Why do you demolish them? Pay attention to the comments on social media. What do people write after the prime minister’s visit? Your photo was not posted there but the Prime Minister’s was, and everyone is cursing the president,” Mirziyoyev said.

The head of state also said that “officials should think with their heads”. 

“This is the enmity that you and your people are stirring up against me. Why didn’t you think about it before demolishing buildings? Is there any benefit from demolition? We gave your unscrupulous people 30-50 billion soums. This is not the money inherent to you from your ancestors, but the money taken from the Finance Ministry. Have you done anything worthy for Uzbekistan?” the president said.

Mirziyoyev also stated that many khokims always intercede for their subordinates and play the role of “attorneys”, so that they are not prosecuted.

“When such problems are voiced everywhere, how can I be restful and sit in my office?” the president asked.

It should be recalled that in May-June 2019 on the Ashgabat Street in Urgench, Khorezm region, local authorities began to evict and demolish the homes of local residents.
