Foreign Ministry denies rumors on detention of Uzbek citizen for preparing terror attack in Sweden
A person detained in Östersund in central Sweden and suspected of organizing a terrorist attack is not a citizen of Uzbekistan. This was announced on Friday by the press service of the Foreign Ministry.
A week ago, Swedish media reported on detention of a native of Uzbekistan, who is suspected of “organizing a terrorist attack”.
The suspect was detained in the morning of August 14 in the center of Östersund. The police received a message about “a driver who somehow strangely moved around the city center”. He was detained on suspicion of preparing a murder, SVT TV channel reported. The prosecutor’s office did not disclose the details of the case. TV4 channel, citing its sources, stated that the detainee intended to hit pedestrians to death.
The Uzbek Embassy in Berlin, which also oversees consular issues in the Kingdom of Sweden, has sent a request to the Swedish side on this case.
“On August 29, the diplomatic mission received an official response from the Östersund district court that the detainee is not a citizen of Uzbekistan,” the MFA said.
