National University of Uzbekistan, National University of Malaysia to establish close cooperation
On August 29, 2019, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Kuala Lumpur Ravshan Usmanov met with the rector of the National University of Malaysia (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia - UKM) Mohd Hamdi bin Abd Shukor, the MFA press service said.
National University of Malaysia ranks 184th in the world. The university provides training in more than 100 specialties and over 27,000 students study there.
During the negotiations, the Malaysian side was acquainted with the activities of the National University of Uzbekistan (NUU) named after Mirzo Ulugbek and the El-Yurt Umidi Foundation, as well as reforms carried out in the republic in the fields of education, health, youth policy and socio-economic development. Information was provided on cooperation with the MARA University of Technology, Binary University of Management and Entrepreneurship, and the University of Technology of Malaysia to open double-degree joint faculties in Uzbekistan in the following areas: finance, banking and tourism.
Mohd Hamdi bin Abd Shukor expressed interest in establishing close cooperation between UKM and NUU in the field of training and professional development of faculty specialized in engineering and mathematics. It is emphasized that UKM actively interacts with educational institutions of China, Turkey and Iran through the introduction of franchising programs. In this regard, the rector pointed out the prospect of considering the possibility of launching a similar joint educational program with Uzbek partners.
At the same time, the leadership of the National University of Malaysia expressed willingness to attract specialists and teachers from Uzbekistan to give lectures at this university on a payment basis, as well as exchange of students for taking short-term courses in partner educational institutions of the two countries.
Following the negotiations, an agreement was reached:
- on establishing contacts with the National University of Uzbekistan and the El-Yurt Umidi Foundation;
- on the exchange of teachers and students of UKM and NUU;
- on attracting specialists and teachers of NUU to deliver lectures at this Malaysian university on a payment basis.
