Malaysian companies eye Fergana as strategic hub for Central Asian expansion
A high-level business forum titled "Perspectives of Doing Business in Fergana" concluded in the Malaysian capital, resulting in a series of preliminary agreements and investment commitments aimed at boosting economic cooperation between Malaysia and Uzbekistan's Fergana region.
The forum took place during an official visit by a Fergana regional delegation led by the regional governor, Khayrullo Bozorov. The event drew more than 150 representatives from the international business community, including over 120 executives from major Malaysian corporations and industry associations, such as MIMOS Berhad, Pharmaniaga, and Mega Fortris Berhad.
Opening the forum, participants emphasized Uzbekistan’s growing investment appeal and highlighted the strategic location of the Fergana region. Presenters noted that the region is uniquely positioned to serve as a comprehensive regional hub for foreign companies looking to enter the broader Central Asian markets.
The discussions yielded several immediate bilateral agreements. Among the signed documents was a memorandum of understanding with Orientex Synergy focused on the construction of affordable housing units in Fergana. Additionally, the delegation signed an agreement with the Malaysia Chinese Association to foster the development of joint commercial projects.
The forum also served as a platform to negotiate specialized investment initiatives spanning multiple innovative and sustainable sectors. These included projects in halal pharmaceuticals, renewable energy infrastructure, the development of a dry port logistics hub, and advanced agricultural ventures such as organic fertilizer production and insect-based protein cultivation.
The two sides reached a formal agreement to organize a dedicated business mission of Malaysian companies to Fergana region later this year, allowing potential investors to evaluate project sites and local market conditions firsthand.
