Shavkat Mirziyoyev speaks about role of Islam Karimov in adoption of the law on state language

During his speech, Shavkat Mirziyoyev spoke about the role of Islam Karimov in adoption of the law on the state language.

“Noting the current significant date, we, first of all, recall October 21, 1989, when the law “On the state language” was adopted. It should be stressed that the adoption of this law at that very difficult time for the country, under the conditions of a totalitarian system, was not easy. I think many of our compatriots remember well how the draft law was submitted twice to the nationwide discussion and caused great public outcry, and was discussed in the media,” the president said.

The head of state noted that he was a witness and a direct participant in these historical processes.

“The strong position of our intelligentsia, the general public and the political will of the first President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, played an important role in the adoption of such an important, long-awaited document,” he said.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized that this was the first decisive step of Uzbekistan towards independence.

“It should be noted that the adoption of this law was the first decisive step of Uzbekistan towards independence and state sovereignty, which has become a vivid manifestation of the desire of our people to determine their own fate,” Mirziyoyev concluded.
