Recently, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to analyze the development of the pharmaceutical industry and provision of medicines to the population. At the meeting, the head of state outlined the priorities for providing the people and medical institutions with high-quality and affordable medicines and medical devices.

In this regard, it is proposed to introduce in the republic a new mechanism of price formation for the main types of medicines. It provides for:

- the introduction of a single electronic database of drugs in selected (neighboring) countries;

- comparing the recommended purchase prices of medicines with neighboring countries;

- a requirement not to let medicine prices in pharmacies exceed external reference prices

- familiarizing importers, including local manufacturers, with the approved reference prices on the website of the Health Ministry and make calculations for their products in accordance with it.

In order to fulfill the assigned tasks, the Antimonopoly Committee, together with the Agency for Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry, will prepare a draft regulatory act on the introduction of an external reference pricing mechanism for the import and sale of medicines in the country.
