Tashkent Zoo transferred to a private company’s trust management
The Tashkent zoo is transferred to the trust management of a private company, follows from the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers.
It is noted that the zoo, currently, does not meet international standards, nor brings any profit (in recent years, 22.7 billion soums have been allocated from the state budget for its operation).
In order to rationally use the state money, reduce the state’s presence in the economy and improve the zoo, Tashkent Zoo is reorganized into Tashkent Zoo LLC and transferred to the management of Wildlife Care LLC.
The company takes on a number of investment obligations – to invest $5 million over the next five years, build new open-air cages and reconstruct old ones, increase the diversity of animals, organize a rehabilitation center for animals and a training center for employees, as well as introduce new technologies.
If the company fulfills all the conditions of the contract, it will be able to manage the zoo for another 30 years.
The resolution also approved the development concept of the zoo. From the current unprofitable state, it should turn into a profitable enterprise that meets international standards (online tickets, merchandising, mobile applications, improved conditions for keeping animals, a new level of care for them, and so on).
The concept is divided into the following stages:
2020-2021 – Analysis of the current state of the zoo, identification of objects for reconstruction, preparation of estimates;
2022-2022 – Phased reconstruction of the zoo, increasing its attractiveness;
2022-2024 – Completion of all planned construction and other works;
2024-2049 – Updating infrastructure, improving conditions, expanding the territory of the zoo if necessary.
