First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ilhom Nematov spoke about the issues of migrant workers, who stay in Russia for six months due to violation of migration legislation, loss of passports, or other reasons, and who are kept in temporary detention centers due to untimely delivery of documents requested from the Uzbek side.

In his interview with Kun.uz, Nematov said that the issue would be solved.

“Of course, this issue will also be solved. Nobody dealt with this issue three years ago. Our President has been paying close attention to this in the past three years. During the official visits, agreements were signed with Russia. In accordance with these agreements, we have sent nine representatives from the Ministry of Labor to Moscow. We have opened 6 consular offices – in Yekaterenburg, Kazan, Vladivostok, Rostov and St. Petersburg. There was no such facilities before. There was only one consular department in the embassy and a consulate in Novosibirsk.

What is the purpose of opening them? The main goal is to protect the interests of our citizens, who work in Russia. Therefore, we will certainly solve these problems. Now we pay great attention to them. We are also raising the issue of pension of migrant workers. There should be no problems in this area,” Nematov said.

For information, immigrants, who violate Russian migration laws, are kept in detention centers until a court order. In fact, there are reports that migrants, who should be detained up to 10 days, have been kept for months or even years there due to the high volume of work of the Russian courts, as well as untimely delivery of IDs and other information from the embassy.
